Judy Bailey und Patrick Depuhl sind ein multikulturelles Künstlerehepaar mit Wurzeln in Barbados und Deutschland. Ihre Familiengeschichten und Lieder des Programms „DAS LEBEN IST NICHT
SCHWARZ WEISS“ konfrontieren die Besucher:innen mit den Themen Kolonialismus, Rassismus, NS-Vergangenheit, Umgang mit Traumata und Arbeit an Versöhnungsprozessen. In narrativer Poetik und ebenso berührenden Liedern vermitteln sie ihren mutmachenden Kampf zur Überwindung bzw. Heilung von tiefsitzenden, durch strukturellen Rassismus entstandenen und in Stereotypen und Alltagsrassismen bis heute wirkenden Verwundungen.
Mit der Konzertlesung verbunden ist das Vorhaben, am gleichen Tag ein internationales, multikulturelles und diverses Gottesdienstformat in Braunschweig zu etablieren. Vorbild dafür ist das Projekt ist „Hannover International Worship“, das seit mehr als 15 Jahren erfolgreich internationale Gottesdienste im Rahmender Ev.-luth. Landeskirche Hannover anbietet.

Life is not black and white
Judy Bailey and Patrick Depuhl are an artistic couple with roots in Barbados and Germany. Their family stories and songs of the programme “LIFE IS NOT BLACK & WHITE” confront visitors with the topics of colonialism, racism, the German Nazi past, dealing with trauma and active work in reconciliation processes. In narrative poetry and touching songs, they convey their encouraging message in the struggle to overcome and heal deep-seated trauma caused by structural and everyday racism which still have an impact on daily life today. Preceding the evening programme, we shall celebrate an international, multicultural and diverse worship service in English and French with Judy and Patrick. The model for this project is the „Hannover International Worship“, which has been successfully running for the last 15 years.
